Principal’s Newsletter Article: Embracing Kindness at KHPS
Dear KHPS Community,
I am thrilled to announce the launch of our Great Kindness Challenge for 2025, which will run for the next two weeks! This initiative empowers our KHPS students to create a vibrant culture of kindness within our school community. During this time, we encourage everyone—students, staff, and families—to engage in random acts of kindness, brightening the days of those around us.
Research shows that when we extend kindness and cooperate with one another, we not only foster a happier and healthier environment but also pave the way for greater success in our personal and academic lives. At KHPS, we believe that teaching kindness is essential, as it nurtures empathy, reduces bullying, and enhances the overall well-being of our students and teachers alike.
This challenge is not just about being polite; it's about cultivating a spirit of compassion and respect. We are excited to share that our teachers are also getting involved, leading by example and demonstrating how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
I encourage each of you to participate actively in the Kindness Challenge. Share your experiences and inspire one another as we work together to make KHPS a shining example of kindness in action. Let’s embrace this opportunity to uplift our community and create lasting connections.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to making our school a welcoming and nurturing place for all.
Gillian Tegg
Congratulations to the students who have been awarded books last week. Abigail, Ayra, Chloe, Elina, Elka, Emma, Flynn, Kira, Mia, Sophia, Tom and Zachary have all been recognised by their teachers as having demonstrated positive learning behaviours at school.
From this week, students can drop their six awards at the office and they will be called back on Wednesdays and Fridays to meet with Mrs Tegg and select their book.

A big congratulations goes to our very own Xander T who represented North Sydney at the State carnival for Rugby last week. If you've ever seen Xander tear up a football field, you'll realise what an integral part of the team he is. Sydney North finished up as joint winners of the carnival with the poor weather preventing an outright win. State champions! Well done, Xander - we are very proud of you!
Other successes of note include: Maths number sense fluency demonstration by Tipperary, KHPS performance at Primary Choral Concert at the Sydney Opera House and garden work by our General Assistants, Mr Rasmussen and Mr Dunn.

Term 3 Learning Project
Rallye Lecture – French Reading Challenge
Kindy to Year 6 – Francophone stream students
We’re off to a great start in this year’s Rallye Lecture!
Over 416 books have already been taken from the FANS resources room into classrooms, ranging from novels and comics to non-fiction. The variety is designed to appeal to many tastes — and to help young readers discover new styles. If it simply makes them more comfortable with reading in French, that’s a win too!
Examples from our shelves:
Students can borrow a new book any day of the week with their French teacher, upon returning the previous one.
Week 1 Results – And the Race Begins!
We’re delighted to see so much enthusiasm, especially among our Year 2 students, who have taken the early lead.

Strings News
The Bach and Amadeus String Ensembles performed two pieces each at the AIAF Youth Festival held at Ashfield Town Hall on Saturday 9 August.
Ms Lu conducted the Amadeus Strings in a lively performance of Firoliralera and Jingli Nona. The students proudly represented KHPS at their first Eisteddfod and played with confidence in front of the Ashfield Town Hall audience.
The Bach Ensemble was up next with Galop Infernal and That's Your Lot! both conducted by Pip B. This group included the Bach and Corelli students that have been rehearsing together every Monday afternoon since Term 1 as well as a few recent recruits who put in the time to learn these new pieces.
The KHPS Bach and Amadeus Ensembles were awarded a joint First Award in the Primary Schools Group Division. The trophy was presented at the AIAF Awards Ceremony at the City Recital Hall on Sunday evening. Well done to all the KHPS String Ensemble students for putting in the practice at home and bringing us such an enjoyable performance! Thank you to all the families for going the extra mile to get your children to the event on Saturday.

Student Voices
I thought that was an amazing concert and I’m very proud of how far we’ve gotten. Although it wasn’t our best performance, I'm happy that our nervousness didn’t stop us from winning 1st place in the primary group. Keep it up guys! :D Anne Q, Y5, violinist.
The concert was a good experience for us. It was fun to go to the award ceremony and see a variety of acts and lots of different instruments. I especially liked the dance groups and piano. Margot S, Y5, violinist
I liked our performance. I did not feel stressed even if it was a competition. Léo C, Y3, violinist

Major FANS Fundraiser
This major fundraiser is vital for the sustainability of the FANS bilingual program. While program fees cover teacher salaries, this event funds essential operational costs, recruitment efforts, and new educational resources for our children.
Are you or your company interested in becoming a FANS French Market sponsor? Please contact us to discuss opportunities: frenchmarket@fanssydney.org
Calling all parent volunteers
While planning has already been kicked off by a small core group, we are looking for people to supplement the team which will bring this incredible event to our community.
The French Market Committee, composed entirely of busy working school parents like you, plans and runs this event by volunteering their own time. The more people involved, the lighter the workload and the more enjoyable the experience for everyone.
To make this team successful, a variety of skills are needed in music, logistics, decorating, sales, gathering donations for the raffle, and more!
Whether you can assist with coordination efforts now or volunteer for a few hours at a stall on the day, every bit of support makes a difference to the team.
Join the French Market 2025 WhatsApp group to learn more, make connections with other parents, and be part of something special!
