Dear parents
As we approach Education Week in Week 3, I would like to recognise this celebration's importance in highlighting the dedication and achievements of our educators, students, and families. We are excited to showcase our vibrant arts programs during Springfest at the end of the term, providing an excellent opportunity for students to demonstrate their creativity and talents.
Additionally, I am thrilled to share that our Stage 1 numeracy initiative is yielding positive results, enhancing students' mathematical understanding and fostering a strong foundation for their future learning. In this initiative, we are focusing on mathematical fact fluency for students in Years 1 and 2, aligning with Strategic Direction 1 - ‘Student Growth and Attainment’ within our School Excellence Plan. Our aim is to cultivate automatic recall of number facts up to 10 and 20 through engaging daily number sense activities.
Children in Stage 1 have been using innovative mini abacuses, known as ninja sliders, to practice their fact fluency each day. This resource deepens their understanding and develops fluency in addition and subtraction using part-part-whole knowledge. Our teachers model mathematical language throughout each lesson, enhancing comprehension and articulation of understanding.
Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Tipperary classroom, where students actively engaged with the ninja sliders, practising their fact fluency and writing number sentences on whiteboards. It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm and collaboration.
I want to thank our parents for reinforcing number facts at home through homework. This collaboration is making a significant positive impact on our students' learning. We are already seeing marked improvement in recalling number facts, a testament to our dedicated teachers and committed students.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child's education. Together, we are fostering confident and capable learners well-equipped for their mathematical journey.

Warm Regards,
Kylie Davidson
A big congratulations to the following students who have started Term 3 with a visit to the Principal's office. In recognition of their consistent work toward our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Success, Aiden, Sophia, Charlene, Paris, Noah & Mika have picked up their book and 'My Principal is Proud of Me' pencil. Well Done!

Semester 1 Reports updated Years 4-6
Following the smooth distribution of our Semester 1 Student Reports at the end of Term 2, we were informed by a few parents that some students Activities were not reflecting their involvement in PSSA Sports teams. In rectifying the issue for these few students, we noticed a significant number of students who were also missing these specific PSSA sports activities.
The issue has now been addressed and all reports for Students in Years 4-6 updated. Any students who participated in a PSSA team in Terms 1 or 2, whose participation was not recorded on their original report, should now see that omission rectified in the report published through the Sentral Parent Portal.
We apologise for this error and thank those eagle-eyed students and parents for bringing it to our attention. Should any parents require an updated report to be emailed or a physical copy sent home, please contact the office via email with your request.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how we can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that we can review our learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. We will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact Me.

Term 3 Learning Project: Rallye Lecture | Reading Challenge
Dear Parents and Carers,
FANS teachers are excited to launch the Rallye Lecture Reading Challenge starting next week! This reading challenge is for all Francophone stream students.
Below is a quick overview of how it works and how you can support your child’s reading journey at home.
Kindy to Year 2
Starting in Week 3, your child will bring home:
- One book from the class Rallye Lecture selection, in addition to their regular readers. Please note: the Rallye Lecture book is not a reader, but a picture book to be enjoyed together.
We encourage you to:
- Read the book with or to your child
- Have fun using different voices for characters
- Explore the illustrations and talk about the story
- Encourage your child to read words or short sentences when possible
How it works:
- One coupon is earned each time a book is read and returned.
- A “bookmark” of mini challenges will be sent home with your child. For each book, students are encouraged to complete one fun challenge such as:
- Inventing a new title
- Drawing a character
- Designing a new book cover
- Each completed challenge earns an extra coupon.
Year 3 to Year 6
From Week 3, your child will also bring home:
- One Rallye Lecture book, in addition to their regular readers.
You can help by:
- Reading the first few pages together to get started.
- Encouraging them to keep up the momentum at home.
Challenge Booklet:
- Students will receive a booklet of creative reading tasks including:
- Researching the author
- Writing an alternate ending
- Drawing the main character or a new cover
- Each returned challenge earns an extra coupon.
Templates will be provided to guide students through the tasks. Parental support is welcome—the focus is on fostering a love of reading!
Happy Reading!

DELF Prim’ Exams for Year 6 students
Every year, FANS partners with the Alliance Française of Sydney to offer Year 6 students in both the Anglophone and Francophone streams the opportunity to sit a DELF Prim’ exam at KHPS.
Two DELF exam levels are offered to Year 6 students:
- A1 Prim’: Students in the Anglophone stream
- A2 Prim’: Students in the Francophone stream and students with an advanced level in the Anglophone stream
This term, students are preparing for the DELF Prim’ exam in their French class, focusing on all areas of the exam: writing, reading, listening, and speaking. They will familiarise themselves with the exam format by completing a directed mock exam.
An email regarding the registration of your child will be sent shortly. Registered students will be invited to sit the DELF Prim’ exam at KHPS on Tuesday, October 28 during school hours.
Upcoming Camp: Camberwell Primary School Exchange
Monday 18 August – Wednesday 20 August
We are excited for the upcoming three-day camp as part of our reciprocal partnership with Camberwell Primary School (CPS) in Victoria. This collaboration supports the development of our bilingual program and strengthens the ties between our two schools.
In 2024, KHPS welcomed a group of students from CPS, and now a selected group of our Year 6 students will have the opportunity to experience their bilingual school.
During the camp, 20 Year 6 students will take part in a range of classroom and extra-curricular activities, offering them valuable insight into life in another bilingual learning environment. This enriching experience also builds on the pen pal project launched in Term 1.
A detailed information pack, including the full itinerary, will be shared with families in the coming weeks.
We look forward to a meaningful and memorable exchange!

As we navigate the ongoing changes in our community's road safety measures, it is essential to prioritise the safety of our children above all else. These adjustments aim to create a safer environment for our students, reducing the risks associated with traffic and ensuring that our school zones are secure.
We kindly remind all parents and guardians to adhere to these new regulations and to model safe behaviours for our children. By working together and remaining vigilant, we can foster a culture of safety that not only protects our students but also instils in them the importance of being responsible road users.
