Calling all Killarney Heights Public School Alumni
I am thrilled to share an exciting opportunity for our school community as we seek to establish the Killarney Heights Public School Alumni Network! This initiative aims to connect our former students, providing a platform for them to share their life achievements, experiences, and insights while supporting future generations of KHPS students.
As we reflect on the journey of our great school, established in 1967, we are reminded of the unique community that has been cultivated over the years, shaped by the dedication of our staff, students, and families. Killarney Heights Public School has a rich history that has seen us evolve, embracing innovative educational programs that cater to the diverse needs of our students. Our commitment to excellence has seen us recognised internationally as a leader in bilingual education. Through our bilingual and language programs, we not only foster language acquisition but also promote cultural understanding and global citizenship among our students.
The success of our students is a testament to the strong foundation laid by our school community and dedicated educators, which continues to grow and thrive. We also take pride in the fact that multiple generations from the same families have attended KHPS, creating a deep-rooted connection to our school community. It is this legacy that we hope to celebrate and extend through our alumni network.
As part of our newly formed alumni network, we invite you, or KHPS alumni you know, to reconnect with us via the QR code below. Your experiences and successes are a source of pride and inspiration for current and future generations of Killarney Heights students. We are excited to share updates about our current programs and initiatives, and we hope to hear your stories as well.
Join us in this wonderful opportunity to celebrate our achievements, build connections, and ensure that the legacy of excellence at Killarney Heights Public School continues to thrive!
Gillian Tegg
Principal
Congratulations to the following students who have shown their dedication and consistency in upholding the KHPS values and expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Success. I was delighted and proud to award Tristan, Corentin, Rose, Atlanta, Marcel and Theodore their book prizes this week. Well done students!

Equally, I am looking forward to hosting a Principal's morning tea on Friday 30 May for those students who have achieved three Principal's Awards. Invitations will be sent home early next week to those students who have returned their three awards to the office before next Wednesday.
Poetry Recitation Competition
This school-wide recitation competition encourages all students to learn a poem in French and to deliver it from memory in a confident and eloquent manner.
Presenting in class
The recitations will take place in class during News time in Week 5/6 (Kindy to Year 2) or during LOTE in Week 6 (Kindy & Years 3 to 6), and a winner will be selected to participate in the finals held in Week 7. The class finalists will receive a note indicating the date of the final (week 7). In week 10, the grade finalists will be awarded certificates at the conclusion of the Assembly.
La leçon
A small error was found in the Y2 Anglophone version of the poem La leçon that was distributed to students. The last line “Sauvons-nous !” was missing. Good work to the keen student who noticed the mistake! A corrected version has been sent home. Meanwhile, students can revise the poem and listen to the video.
Poetry Illustration
Students are encouraged to illustrate their poem and submit their artwork to their French teacher by the end of Week 7. A winning illustration will be chosen for each year, and all illustrations will be displayed on the hall walls for the end of Term 2!

Duke of Edinburgh student volunteers
FANS has continued to receive excellent help from several former KHPS students who are now attending Killarney Heights High School and undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh awards.
This term the volunteers have been helping with L’Etude Homework Club, Le Petit Sportif, and tasks in the FANS office.
Many thanks to Ambre, a Year 9 student who has completed her volunteering hours with FANS and is now studying in France for six weeks. Bon voyage!
If you have or know of a student looking for volunteering opportunities, please come see us to discuss their interests. We always have a variety of interesting tasks available, including event prep, admin tasks, and working with primary students during our after-school programs. Please write info@fanssydney.org if you’re interested.
Best regards,

Crazy Hair Day and World' Greatest Shave
Dear Parents and Carers,
We’re excited that Monday 26th May will be Crazy Hair Day at school!
As part of our support for the World’s Greatest Shave, students are invited to come to school with the craziest, wackiest hairstyles they can imagine! From colourful spray to wild wigs and funky styles — let creativity run wild for a great cause.
We kindly ask that students bring along a gold coin donation, which will go directly to the Leukaemia Foundation to support families facing blood cancer and fund vital research.
Let’s have some fun while making a difference!
Thank you for your support.

Student Voice from Year 6 Camp
When we walked on to the bus and sat down, we all saw our parents waving us off to Canberra. We arrived at the Australian war memorial and split up into our classes. We saw the wall of poppies before entering into the room of the unknown slogger's grave. The Mint was fun but we were all excited to see our accommodation. We had small rooms with 3 other friends where we slept and played board games. We ate chicken with noodles and got a huge muffin nearly as large as our face. Felix - Joyce
When we were on the bus we could look out the window and see our parents waving us goodbye. When we got to Canberra the first thing we did was go to the war memorial. We saw old Australian artifacts. We also went to the Mint, where we were able to buy special coins learn about the history of Australian mint (where they make Australia's coins.) We also saw a big robot grab 750 kg of coins. He was called Titan. We also went to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport.) We also went to a lot of other places like the old and new government houses, and we went to Questacon. Altogether camp was very fun and an experience that all kids should have. Levijn - Joyce
At the start we got on the bus and saw that out the window all of the parents were waving goodbye. While we were all saying our last goodbyes to our parents the bus started the engine so we could all get to Canberra. After we were on the bus for a while we stopped at Berrima so we could have an eating break {YUMMY!}. Then we finally got to Canberra and started to do our activities. I can't remember all of them but I know we did the memorial. Then we all had dinner after a few hours went by but sadly for the people who have dietary diet we had to have different foods while watching other people having a really good meal. Soren – Furbo
When we got on the bus we were all so excited. On the second day we went to both old and new parliament house. At old parliament we went to the Senate and learned about the people who worked there as well as looking to many different artifacts like what the first Aboriginal man in the senate wore or how they used to vote. In new parliament we also went to the senate and also the House of Representatives. We go to do a mock debate and see Lego parliament . It was an amazing camp ? Azure – Joyce
Couscous Royal
Parents dinner & dancing evening
The delicious Couscous Royal Soirée was a huge success! Many thanks to the whole community for attending, dressing up, and creating a fantastic ambiance.
Special thanks to the team of parent volunteers who worked hard and with smiles to set-up and clean-up the event this weekend. Your precious time and efforts are so appreciated. Without you, these events wouldn’t be possible!
A big thanks to our partners for the evening: KHPS for hosting at the school, the P&C for sharing the canteen and décor, Azul by Omar for the wonderful catering, Wine Haven for the quality beverages, Moroccan Vibe for the stylish chill lounge, and Booth Me Up! for the fun photobooth. Merci à tous!

World Music Day
Sunday 22 June, 10am - 4pm
This whole-school event is hosted and organised by KHPS, with the help of the P&C and FANS. This is the 4th edition of World Music Day at KHPS, featuring multiple stages to hear our school's bands, strings, and choirs perform.
To grow the event, the school will be welcoming other bands, strings and choirs from across the Northern Beaches and North Shore to create an even more musical day!
Bring your family and friends to enjoy a musical day, along with fresh food and fun games.
As this is a fundraising event for the P&C and FANS, there will be a need for parent volunteers to make the day a success. Please stay tuned for a sign-up sheet.
