Dear School Community,
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and carers who are taking the opportunity to engage with parent-teacher interviews this week. Your willingness to participate in these discussions is greatly appreciated and plays a crucial role in supporting our students' educational journey.
Research consistently shows that parental involvement in education significantly enhances student achievement and well-being. A study by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership highlights that students whose parents are engaged in their education are more likely to excel academically, exhibit positive behaviour, and develop strong social skills.
Parent-teacher interviews provide an invaluable opportunity for you to engage with our educators, discuss your child’s progress, and collaborate on strategies to support their learning journey. These conversations are not only about academic performance but also about your child's social and emotional development. Your involvement is essential in fostering a strong partnership between home and school, which is vital for our students' success.
Attending these interviews allows you to gain insights into your child's strengths and areas for improvement, as well as to celebrate their achievements. It also provides a platform for you to ask questions, share concerns, and work together with our teachers to ensure the best possible outcomes for your child.
I encourage all parents and guardians to take part in these discussions. Your presence and input are highly valued, and together, we can create a supportive environment that nurtures our students’ growth and learning.
Thank you once again for your ongoing commitment to your child/ren's education and our school community. Together, we are transforming lives through learning.
Warm regards
Gillian
Congratulations to Our Outstanding Students!
The school community is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of students who have earned six certificates for exemplifying the positive behaviour expectations of Respect, Responsibility, and Success. Their dedication to these values has fostered a positive environment and inspired their peers. This achievement reflects not only their hard work but also their strong character. Congratulations to Arthur, Daria, Hugo, Juliette, Alice and Ollie on gaining this excellent benchmark of achievement.

Online bookings for parent-teacher interviews, taking place this week, are closed. Should you need to book or edit your booking, please contact the office via phone.
General Parent-Teacher Interview Info:
This year we are delivering our interviews in person or via Zoom, whichever suits parents best. Below are the days for each class interviews:
If you are booking for a face-to-face interview, please arrive 5 minutes early to account for the time needed to walk to the meeting location. Locations of face-to-face interviews:
If you are booking a Zoom interview, you will need to have a Zoom account. All class Zoom IDs and Passcodes can be found here: Zoom_IDs_2025.doc.pdf
All interviews are designed and timetabled to be 10 minutes long, with a 5-minute buffer. This buffer is to allow for teachers to organise their resources for the next interview and is also imperative to allow for shifting between face-to-face and Zoom interviews.
If teachers or parents need a longer discussion than the allocated 10 minutes, a separate meeting should be organised for another time. This can be done by emailing or phoning the school during school hours.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents for taking the time to join these meetings and to all of the teachers for preparing for these interviews and for arriving earlier and/or staying back later than usual.
Regards,
Anne McIntosh
Deputy Principal (Act.)

With the holidays coming up, we realise many families may have the opportunity to shop for new school shoes. As such we would like to remind the community that our school uniform, on all days other than sports uniform days, is fully black shoes for both boys and girls.
Sports uniform includes gym shoes of whatever colour you prefer.
Most shoe stores are very well equipped with fully black shoes which come in a variety of materials and styles including fully black shoes which are gym-shoe like if your child does not 'work well' in full leather shoes.
If 'yours' don't need replacing, a bit of black polish or leather cream can go a long way to tidying the look and maintaining the waterproof qualities and longevity to ensure a longer life!

Premier's Reading Challenge
In current library lessons for years 1-6, students are being reminded how to log books onto their Premier's Reading Challenge log. Please find attached the step by step instructions to help your child/ren to complete the challenge.
Please note: their logins are their school computer logins. The same ones they use at school for the DET computers to login, firtsname.lastname(number if they have one) and their school password. If they do not know this please check the login list that was sent home earlier in the year, or ask the classroom teacher as I do not have access to these logins as the teacher librarian.
The challenge is open until August 22nd.
As always, happy reading!

It was wonderful to see so many students and staff celebrate our diverse community and promote inclusion and respect for all cultures by wearing orange or cultural clothing on Wednesday 26 March. Killarney Heights Public School came together to make the day a memorable celebration of the rich cultural tapestry that makes our school community so special.

A reminder to complete the permission note via School Bytes.
Our annual school Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Thursday 10 April at ES Marks, Kensington.
Students are expected to arrive at school at 7:40am to catch the buses at 8:00am sharp. If your child arrives at school after the buses depart they will either stay at school or you will have to make your own way to the Carnival to drop them off.
If students are competing in 1500m they are to make their own way to ES Marks, Kensington. They MUST be at the track at 8:15am. Students will return for the end of school by 3:00pm.
KHPS Bach and Corelli Strings Workshop at Forestville PS
Sunday 30 March 2025
The Bach and Corelli Strings Ensembles were at Forestville Public School yesterday for an afternoon workshop with the Forestville PS Strings students. Violin, viola, cello and double bass students worked in groups across three sessions to improve their playing skills and music appreciation over the afternoon. The in-depth sessions gave tutors and students the opportunity to focus on dynamics and bow technique for two of the pieces the students are learning this term. The selected pieces showcase two very different styles of music both arranged from film soundtracks. One is the slow and haunting melody Harry’s Wondrous World from the Harry Potter films and the other is a fast, dynamic piece from the Kung Fu film ‘Once Upon a Time in China’.
The Bach and Corelli Ensembles joined the Forestville Junior and Senior Strings to perform both pieces in a Concert after the workshop. The students and conductors have worked hard to prepare these pieces to such a high standard in Term 1 and we all look forward to hearing the students perform these and other new pieces at upcoming performances in Term 2. Thank you to all the parents, carers and students for joining the workshop on Sunday and thanks to the tutors and conductors Rowena, Suna and Pip for such a successful workshop and Concert.

Parents of any students who have weekly or bi-weekly appointments, consequently missing part of the school day, need to apply to the Principal for a part-day exemption approval.
This includes students who are picked up early or arrive late to attend ongoing medical and paraprofessional appointments and therapy on a scheduled basis.
Exemptions may be granted when it has been clearly demonstrated by the applicant that a part-day exemption is necessary to achieve the best educational interests of the child, and that efforts to schedule appointments outside school hours continue to be made.
Please email the school, attention Mrs Tegg, to apply. You will need to specify details of the ongoing absence including time, regularity and the reason for the absence.
Please note that exemption will not be granted for the purpose of coaching or tutoring off-site during school hours.
