These evenings are an opportunity for staff to meet you and share their teaching and learning expectations, important class/school routines and suggest ways that you can assist your child/ren in their learning journey.
This year, our meet the teacher evenings will be held face-to-face in your child’s classroom. These sessions are not for students, nor are they a time for individual meetings with the teacher.
Individual teachers’ presentation slides will be made available via Schoolzine, following the Meet the Teacher evenings.

Term 1 Extra-Curricular Timetables
As per the School Zine communication last week, we are very lucky to have so many teachers willing to give up their before school/recess/lunch times to coordinate and run different clubs and activities.
Because we know parents sometimes like to know what's available for their child to attend or like to remind their children about commitments, we have provided stage timetables below for our current break-time clubs and activities.

Stage_1_T1_Extra_curricular_activities.pdf
Stage_2_T1_Extra_curricular_activities.pdf
Stage_3_T1_Extra_curricular_activities.pdf
For the activities that are selected by auditions, all relevant students are told about the date, time and location of all auditions ahead of time and then reminded by loud-speaker announcement directly before. Parents are also notified ahead of time by the Bulletin.
Scheduling conflicts with other activities cannot be avoided and/or changed.

Last Tuesday was our yearly Swimming Carnival. Over 350 children attended the Warringah Swimming Centre, it was a day filled with excitement and personal bests.
Firstly, a massive thank you to the parent timekeepers who took time out of their day to assist with time keeping at our swimming carnival, and to the teachers who worked without a break all day to ensure we could run a carnival. Without these amazing individuals this day would not have been able to occur.
A massive congratulations to all the students who represented Killarney Heights Public School with Respect, Responsibility and Success. All students who attended displayed remarkable sportsmanship, pride in themselves and others, resilience and determination. As teachers, we consider ourselves lucky to teach children like this! Also, thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children and their children's friends.
Another huge congratulations to the successful students who will be attending the Zone Swimming Carnival next month.

Consistent, Insistent and Persistent
As a school, we know that children are best supported, learn better and are more comfortable and confident when they have clear and consistent routines, expectations and consequences. Staff at KHPS have been working hard to ensure that we maintain a sense of teacher autonomy and 'classroom uniqueness' within a culture of high expectations and consistent practices and routines focussed on learning and mutual respect.
We refer to them amongst the staff as 'Non-Negotiables' and have seen the impact of implementation over the last 12 months. You will see the heading of this article - Consistent, Insistent and Persistent. This is how we see the implementation of these expectations and routines. As such we aim to be consistent irrespective of the staff member, the student, the weather or our mood! We are insistent, even when the students may struggle to meet our expectations on some days, and we are persistent - we will keep supporting and reminding until we get there! Of course the way this is presented for a Kindergarten student may be different to how we work with our most senior students, but the basic expectations and routines are the same. Sounding similar, no doubt to your approach at home!
We thought we would share a few for your reference - I'm sure your children can elaborate on what these look like in their classrooms! Today the slides focus on lining up, seating, behaviour management and resource management non-negotiables which you will see in all classes across the school.

Francophonie Week / Semaine de la Francophonie
This year’s annual KHPS celebration of Francophone language and cultures will be held from Monday 24 – Friday 28 March. Exciting activities for students are being planned to take place during recess and lunch breaks, so stay tuned for more details.
Francophonie Week learning projects
To mark Francophonie Week, the Teachers of French are leading several learning projects this term, while collaborating with other Australian French-English bilingual schools. These partnerships help students to broaden their horizons, discover new ways of learning, and understand that many other students are also learning French in Australia.
French words used in English - Illustration competition
In partnership with bilingual partner school Camberwell Primary School in Victoria, this competition is open to all students in Stages 2 & 3. Students can choose a French word that’s also used in English from a selected list and then illustrate that word. This year’s theme is “Faux amis”, which are words that appear to be the same or similar in two languages but actually have very different meanings. They can easily cause confusion as it is often assumed they mean the same thing.
Raise your voice! / Lève ta voix ! Reading aloud competition
Introducing this term’s challenge for our Francophone stream students!
“Lève ta voix / Raise your voice!” is a fun reading aloud competition for French-English bilingual primary and secondary schools across Australia, inspired by the “Petits Champions de la lecture”, a competition held in France since 2012.
We are delighted to participate in this project established by various schools in the AAFEBS (Australian Association of French-English Bilingual Schools) network.
Participating francophone students will be invited to read aloud a pre-selected book passage for the selection of a finalist in each category. More details will follow next week. Happy reading!

We would like to take this opportunity to let the families in our community know that even though there has been mention in the media recently of some councils trialling the shared use of e-scooters, Northern Beaches council is not one of those trial sites. Therefore, "Personal e-scooters remain illegal on NSW roads and road-related areas, including footpaths, shared paths and bicycle lanes. You can only use these on private property." Term 1 P&C Meeting – Wednesday 26 February 2025 at 7:00 PM
We hope all the kids have settled in well – can you believe we’re already in Week 4? Time is flying!
Our first P&C meeting for 2025 will be held on Wednesday 26 February at 7:00 PM. You can attend in person in the Teacher’s Office at the school or join online via Zoom.
If you have any specific items you’d like to add to the agenda for discussion, please email secretary@khps-pc.com.au before the meeting.

Meeting Dates for 2025:
- Term 1 – Wednesday 26 February
- Term 2 – Wednesday 28 May
- Term 3 – Wednesday 20 August
- Term 4 & AGM – Wednesday 12 November
For those new to KHPS and as a reminder to returning families, P&C meetings are an opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns, and engage in open and constructive discussions about the school. These meetings provide a space to hear important updates directly from school leadership and stay informed on key decisions. For example, at our last Term 4 meeting, Ms Tegg shared insights into the intricate process of class formations, which was incredibly valuable for parents.
To ensure meetings remain efficient and productive, we aim for a strict two-hour time limit, following a set agenda. This helps families plan their time while making it easier for more parents to participate.
If you wish to vote on any matters at the AGM or any P&C meeting throughout 2025, a $2 contribution is required in advance.
