New Beginnings
Dear KHPS Community,
Welcome to the 2025 school year! A heartfelt welcome to our new Kindergarten students and everyone joining us for the first time. We’re so happy to have you as part of our growing KHPS family!
As we embark on this new school year, let’s take a moment to think about what “new beginnings” means for all of us—students, teachers, and families. It’s a wonderful chance to set fresh goals, tackle new challenges, and grow together. This new year brings a fresh start, sparking motivation and making learning even more exciting!
Creating a positive and supportive school environment is key to our success. At KHPS, we’ve updated our KHPS_School_Behaviour_Support_and_Management_Plan to help promote respect, inclusion, and support for every student, ensuring everyone feels safe and valued.
Let’s also focus on kindness and gratitude, which can truly enhance our school culture. Small acts, like saying “thank you” or lending a hand, can make a big difference. Research shows that gratitude boosts happiness and strengthens friendships.
When our students feel connected with their classmates and teachers, they engage more in their learning. This year, we’ll prioritise building strong relationships and encouraging positivity. Remember, making mistakes is all part of learning, and bouncing back from challenges is a valuable skill.
I encourage families to help their children set personal goals this year. Whether it’s improving in their studies, making new friends, or trying something new, every goal is a step toward growth. We’re here to support every student in reaching their dreams.
Together, with our focus on respect, responsibility, resilience, kindness, and gratitude, we’ll help our students succeed and face challenges with confidence.
As we start this exciting journey, let’s create an environment where every student feels encouraged to take risks, learn from their experiences, and celebrate their achievements—big or small. Together, let’s make kindness and gratitude a part of our everyday lives at KHPS.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Let’s make this year amazing!
Warm wishes,
Gillian Tegg
We look forward to seeing all students, K-6, at school tomorrow, Thursday 6th February.
Drop Off
Teachers will be on duty for supervision from 8:30am. Only students who attend KHOOSH can be on the school premises before 8:30am. There are no before school French classes scheduled for tomorrow.
When the bell rings at 9am, students should line up at their 2024 class line area. Initially, students will return to their 2024 class groups.
- Kindergarten 2025 should meet at their allocated classroom at the start time allocated to each family (as previously emailed).
- Year 1 2025 (last year's Kindergarten) will be organised in 2024 class lines in the quadrangle (as they did for Kindy 2025 orientation days last term). Staff will be in the Kindy Canyon to assist with this process.
- Students new to KHPS in grades 1-6 will meet in front of the school office (blue gate) upon arrival.
Pickup (3pm)
Specific grade pickup points are:
- New students in grades 1-6 will be picked up from the blue gate grassed area in front of the office (they will be escorted here) until they are more familiar with the school.
- Kindergarten (2025) will be picked up from their classroom. Parents please wait in the Kindy Canyon. At 3pm, Kindy students will be taught to sit on the silver seats in front of their classroom to watch out for your arrival and collection. Students attending KHOOSH will be picked up by KHOOSH carers in the Kindy Canyon.
- Year 1 (2025) Students meet parents under the COLA (this week only). Teachers will bring their classes out and wait with students until they find parents. From next week on, year 1 students will wait with their teachers on their class verandahs until their parent/carer arrives. Students attending KHOOSH are expected to walk to KHOOSH themselves.
- Year 2 (2025) Students to meet parents on the Quadrangle (this week only). Teachers will walk their classes out to the Quadrangle. From next week on, year 2 students will wait with their teachers on their class verandahs until their parent/carer arrives.
- All other grades are excused by teachers to meet parents/caregivers at your pre-arranged meeting point.
Class Formations
We expect to have Year 1-6 students in their new classes before lunch tomorrow, but this will depend upon actual student attendance.
We will spend time with students talking about change and resilience before class groups are announced. We will discuss the fact that class time is for learning and concentrating and break times are for socialising and playing.
It is natural that children will feel a sense of 'loss' or worry when not all of their closest friends are in their new class, and indeed that there is a change of teacher, room and peers. This feeling is normal and should be acknowledged along with the messaging of growth, adventure, new opportunities and friendships etc. We would greatly appreciate parents presenting these same messages.
Uniform
Students should wear their regular summer school uniform including their school hat (reversible blue/green bucket hats ONLY) and black shoes.
Label everything!!!
Don't forget 'crunch and sip', morning tea, lunch and a drink bottle!
Canteen Orders
Any orders (Recess and Lunch) for the canteen tomorrow should be made using students' 2024 classes. Classroom teachers will send students to the canteen to collect orders individually at the appropriate time.
2025 class groups will be entered into Flexischools in preparation for ordering after tomorrow.
Schoolzine groups
The Year Group schoolzine groups will be renamed in the coming hours. As such you will still be in each child's year group and will see it renamed to their current grade (i.e. Year 3 2024 will become Year 4 2025).
2024 class groups will be removed and 2025 class groups made. It will be up to individual users to subscribe to the appropriate groups (classes, extra-curricular etc.). A reminder notification is coming tomorrow with info about your child's class, teacher etc.
KHPS will bulk order the stationery with the aim of making it cheaper for families and take away the stress of shopping for all the items. The stationery was delivered to the classrooms during the summer holidays, ready for all students when they arrive at school for 2025.
Here is a list of the items each child will have in the classroom. The cost of this stationery will be included in your Term 1 statement of account.
Students enjoy choosing a pencil case of their own, so they are welcome to do this and bring it in at the start of next year.
